About Pedal & Propel

Who am I?

I’m an everyday age grouper triathlete who pays the bills as an electrical engineer. I run, bike, and swim whenever I can, chasing down my goal of getting better at each sport. I started as a runner 25 years ago and have trained off and on since. I decided to pick it back up, but an injury made me consider cycling during COVID. I started by building my own gravel bike from scratch, which ended up a big flop but a great learning experience.

I bought several used bikes since and discovered the joy of pedaling. With each bike I've picked up, I've learned new refurbishment techniques and maintenance practices.

At some point I figured why not throw in swimming and compete in triathlons. I had considered it in college but never got further than a triathlon guide book purchased from the bookstore. So, I taught myself how to swim, and then I dove into the triathlon scene. I have been racing for two years, and I’m always looking for new challenges and adventures.

I’m also an outdoor enthusiast and a gadget geek. I enjoy windsurfing and surfing, although the waves here are not that great where I live. I also like to go backpacking and camping in the wilderness, exploring new places and enjoying the beauty of the earth.

When I’m indoors, I like to toy with automation and electronics. I have a knack for technology and innovation, and I like to create new things and solve problems. I recently invested in a 3D printer, and I have been making my own mounts for my bike accessories. I'm just creeping into this area but it’s amazing what you can do with a printer and some imagination.

But above all, I’m a family man who tries my best to balance work, family, and training. I have a wonderful wife and two kids who drive me to be a better person every day.
